Communication services
With a background in biology and experience creating engaging content for organizations like fRI Research and Parks Canada, I’ve developed a knack for transforming complex scientific concepts into clear, compelling stories that connect with a wide audience.
Through Shade of Biology, I offer a range of science communication services, from managing social media accounts to crafting top-quality content for platforms like Facebook, Bluesky, X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn. Whether you're new to social media and don’t know where to start or your team is overwhelmed, I can help!
Experience That Counts
With over 10 years of experience in social media management, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to make social media work for science communication. I’ve managed content for organizations such as:
- fRI Research
- Parks Canada (Jasper National Park)
- Jasper Artists Guild
- Hinton Art Club
- Hinton Community Garden
- Dalhousie Outdoors Society
Having experience working with diverse teams—including communication specialists, wildlife biologists, and wildfire experts—I am able to bridge that gap between science and storytelling. My background in forest health, invasive species, biology, species at risk, and wildfire helps me create content that resonates with both scientific communities and the public.
Creating content to fit your needs
I know how to capture an audience’s attention and leave a lasting impression. My experience includes:
- Writing newsletters for fRI Research along with creating social media posts for Facebook, Instagram, X, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.
- Summarizing infographics to help general audiences understand scientific research at fRI Research.
- Developing Parks Canada web pages and social media campaigns on a range of topics, such as mountain pine beetle, species at risk, caribou, wildfire, and more.
- Writing the script and working with a team of scientists to create two Parks Insider videos (Caribou Comeback & Caribou at Risk) for caribou consultations.
- Writing engaging e-newsletters for Parks Canada and the Bugs and Diseases Newsletter.
- Creating videos, including reels, TikToks, and Facebook shorts on Shade of Biology.
- Writing the scripts and directing two Facebook Live events (#wildliferules & pine in decline) for Parks Canada.
Bringing science to life through art
Alongside my work in science communication, I’ve been exploring digital illustration for the past two years. Good posts have good media, which is why I’m especially interested in using art as a tool to explain science, whether that be through infographics, educational illustrations, and other visual content that makes complex ideas more accessible.
From eye-catching graphics for social media to detailed visuals for scientific storytelling, I’m always keen to collaborate on projects that connect science and art.
Let's work together
If you're looking for a communicator who understands both science and storytelling, I’d love to collaborate. Reach out to me at shadeofbiology@gmail.com, or fill out the contact me form.
