Social media and science communication services

With a background in biology and experience creating engaging content for organizations like fRI Research and Parks Canada, I’ve developed a knack for transforming complex scientific concepts into clear, compelling stories that connect with a wide audience.

Through Shade of Biology, I offer a range of science communication services, from managing social media accounts to crafting top-quality content for platforms like Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn. Whether you're new to social media and don’t know where to start or your team is overwhelmed, I can help!

Experience That Counts

With nine years of experience in social media management, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to make social media work for science communication. I’ve managed content for organizations such as:

  • fRI Research
  • Parks Canada (Jasper National Park)
  • Jasper Artists Guild
  • Hinton Art Club
  • Hinton Community Garden
  • Dalhousie Outdoors Society

Working with diverse teams—including communication specialists, wildlife biologists, and wildfire experts—I bring a strong understanding of both science and storytelling. My background in forest health, biology, species at risk, and wildfire allows me to create content that resonates with both scientific communities and the public.

When you work with me, you're partnering with a creative professional who stays up to date with the latest social media trends and strategies to ensure your message reaches the right audience.

Creating content to fit your needs

I know how to capture an audience’s attention and leave a lasting impression. My experience includes:

  • Summarizing infographics to help general audiences understand scientific research at fRI Research.
  • Developing Parks Canada web pages and social media campaigns on a range of topics, such as mountain pine beetle, species at risk, caribou, wildfire, and more.
  • Writing the script and working with a team of scientists to create two Parks Insider videos (Caribou Comeback & Caribou at Risk) for caribou consultations.
  • Writing engaging e-newsletters for Parks Canada and the Bugs and Diseases Newsletter.
  • Creating dynamic videos, including reels, TikToks, and Facebook shorts.
  • Writing the scripts and directing two Facebook Live events (#wildliferules & pine in decline)  for Parks Canada.
  • Overhauling the "Envirokids" workbook for kids, working with a team of forest health experts and artist to make it more interactive and educational.

My diverse skill set and creative approach can take your science communication products to the next level.

Bringing scientific to life through art

In addition to my work in science communication, I love creating art and have been exploring digital illustration over the past two years. I’m especially interested in using art as a tool for science communication—creating infographics, educational illustrations, and other visual products that help bring complex ideas to life. Whether it’s designing eye-catching graphics for social media or crafting detailed visuals for scientific storytelling, I’d love to collaborate on projects that bridge the gap between science and art.
